For the Integrative 3R Center of Ulm University we are looking for a
Veterinarian (m/f/d)

The Integrative 3R Center at the University of Ulm aims to strengthen and further develop the implementation of the 3R principles (Replace, Reduce, Refine) in research, education and infrastructure in a sustainable manner. The position combines scientific, coordinating and strategic tasks at the interface of animal welfare, research and university self-administration.
Your profile:
- Completed degree in veterinary medicine with license to practice medicine
- Further training as a specialist veterinarian for laboratory animal science or animal welfare
- Extensive knowledge of the relevant national and European legal bases (TierSchG, TierSchVersV, Directive 2010/63/EU, ETS 123)
- In-depth experience in laboratory animal science (rodent and large animal models), perioperative intensive care medicine and 3R methods
- Experience in scientific consulting and interdisciplinary cooperation
- Organizational skills, initiative and a structured, independent way of working
- Strong communication and coordination skills
- Excellent English skills (spoken and written)
- Interest in strategic development of interdisciplinary research and transfer structures
Your responsibilities:
Co-creation and strategic development of the Integrative 3R center
- Analysis and further development of existing 3R structures (replacement, reduction, refinement)
- Development of institutional 3R strategies and evaluation instruments
- Advising researchers on the implementation of innovative 3R methods (e.g. NAMs, in silico models)
- Conception and implementation of training courses, webinars and conferences
- Science communication and further development of information services
- Integration and evaluation of regulatory requirements (TierSchG, TierSchVersV, Directive 2010/63/EU)
Development and establishment of a refinement lab:
- Conceptual and professional development of a refinement lab in the multiple trauma building
- Establishment of modern anesthesia, analgesia and intensive care concepts for transgenic rodent models as well as large animal models (pig, sheep)
- Integration of imaging techniques (CT, MRI, angiography)
- Development of stress-minimizing test designs and SOPs
- Expert advice on animal experiment applications and ensuring compliance with animal welfare requirements
- Professional guidance of participating employees
