For the Institute of Communications Engineering we are looking for an

Academic employee - PhD position (m/f/d)

We seek to increase the proportion of women in research and teaching and particularly encourage qualified female scientists to apply for this position.

Severely disabled applicants with equal aptitude will be given preferential consideration.

Full-time positions are generally divisible.

within the framework of a DFG-funded Research Training Group (RTG)

hosted at the University of Ulm and FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg. The RTH targets for cutting-edge research in the fields of microwave engineering, radar, communications engineering, and remote sensing.

Scientific Background

The aim of the new RTG is to train and promote young scientists in the fields of radar technology, remote sensing, communications, and signal processing. In the RTG, new approaches are to be researched by means of which radar sensors on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) can be networked with one another and jointly generate a tomographic image for monitoring geophysical parameters in the bio-, geo-, hydro-, and cryosphere.

In a sub-project at Ulm University project the signal reconstruction in multi-static radar is studied. Starting from the (distributed) compressed sensing approaches developed so far, new concepts for joint reconstruction of undersampled signals and radar imaging will be developed. The doctoral student will strongly interact with the radar and the resource optimization sub-projects and should have a strong back-ground in communications, signal processing or mathematics.

We are looking for researchers with outstanding degrees in Electrical Engineering specializing in microwave engineering, communications engineering, signal processing or with a similar background.

Work Environment

We offer a stimulating, interdisciplinary research environment within an enthusiastic team at two internationally-oriented, open-minded and highly ranked universities. The doctoral studies will be embedded in a structured, interdisciplinary program with other young researchers of other disciplines.

Your profile:

  • Master´s degree or comparable from a first-class university with a grade well above average
  • profound knowledge in one of the research areas listed above
  • excellent knowledge of written and oral English (C1 and above)
  • ability for cooperation and research in an interdisciplinary team
  • excellent social skills, high motivation and commitment

Your responsibilities:

  • conducting the work within the RTG

We offer:

  • A position to advance your academic qualifications through a doctoral degree
  • Intensive supervision and excellent collaboration within the RTG and the entire Institute
  • Opportunities for career development and networking through international conferences, workshops, and seminars
  • Salary in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement for a full-time (100%) position
