Research Assistant (Postdoctoral researcher)

The position is offered for a period of 2 years. The starting date is as soon as possible or by agreement. The position is fulltime with salary and benefits commensurate with a public service position in the state Hesse, Germany (TV-H E 13).

Tasks:

  • nanofabrication of electricallly-gated van der Waals heterostructures
  • design, setup, and operation of experimental instrumentation
  • optical spectroscopy and transport experiments
  • data analysis, modeling and scientific communication
  • scientific services in research and teaching
  • preparation of publications and contributions to conferences

The position will be filled by a temporary contract that is limited to the period which is necessary to gain further scientific expertise (such as the preparation for a subsequent qualification period). Within the entrusted tasks the opportunity for independent scientific work to obtain further personal qualification is given. The limitation complies with Section 2(1) of the German Academic Fixed-Term Contract Act (WissZeitVG).

Profile:

  • MSc-degree in physics, as well as Ph.D. in experimental solid-state physics
  • in-depth knowledge and practical experience in the field of exciton physics in semiconductors or related quantum materials
  • proven experience in optical spectroscopy of semiconductors (absorption, photoluminescence, pump-probe) as well as in magneto-optical measurement techniques
  • practical experience with low-temperature experiments (cryogenics)
  • proven experience in the assembly, development, and operation of complex optical setups
  • experience in the analysis and interpretation of complex experimental data in the context of many-body physics

Disposition to own scientific qualification is expected.
