The University of Marburg, founded in 1527, offers a variety of excellent programs of study for around 22,000 students and confronts the important topics of our time through excellent research across a broad spectrum of sciences.

The Faculty of Medicine, Institute of Pharmacology, invites applications for a

Professorship (W 2) for Molecular Pharmacology

to be filled at the earliest possible date.

The Institute of Pharmacology focuses on the molecular mechanisms underlying epithelial plasticity and intercellular communication – fundamental processes that govern epithelial organ regeneration and tumor progression.

We seek a scientifically outstanding researcher with a strong capacity for innovation, who will strengthen the research profile of the Medical Faculty in tumor biology and/or inflammation and infection at the highest international level. The successful candidate is expected to play a strategic role in advancing the Faculty’s focus on epithelial adaptation and to collaborate closely with major DFG-funded research consortia, in particular the TRR 425 “Desmosomal Dysfunction in Epithelial Barriers”, the RTG 2573 “The Inflammatory Tumor Secretome”, and the Marburg research groups within the SPP 2493 “Heterotypic Cell–Cell Interactions in Epithelial Tissues”.

Tasks:

  • Establishment and development of an independent, internationally visible research group supported by competitive third-party funding
  • Active interdisciplinary collaboration with existing research networks, institutes, and clinical partners
  • Strategic participation in the development of new research initiatives within the Faculty of Medicine and Marburg University, particularly in the field of epithelial adaptation
  • Strong personal commitment to the acquisition of competitive external research funding
  • Team-oriented and cooperative involvement in the academic self-administration of the Institute of Pharmacology
  • Dedicated representation of pharmacology in German-language teaching across degree programs in human medicine and dentistry, as well as in the Bachelor’s and Master’s programs in Biomedical Sciences

Profile:

  • Completed university degree and a doctoral degree in medicine, pharmacy, or another life sciences discipline
  • Internationally visible research using innovative, disease-relevant model systems in the field of epithelial adaptation in inflammation, regeneration, and/or cancer
  • Outstanding publication record and demonstrated success in securing competitive third-party funding
  • Strong team-working skills, a high level of cooperation, and a pronounced interest in interdisciplinary research
  • Proven teaching competence and sustained teaching experience
  • Prior teaching experience in pharmacology is desirable, but not mandatory

The appointment requirements according to Sections 67 and 68 of the Hessian Higher Education Act (Hessisches Hochschulgesetz - HessHG) apply. Marburg University places great emphasis on intensive mentoring of students and doctoral candidates and therefore expects a high level of on-site presence and academic engagement.

The Universities of Giessen and Marburg, together with the Technical University Mittelhessen (THM), have jointly founded the Mittelhessen Research Campus. Within this framework, the two medical faculties pursue structured collaboration based on coordinated research priorities. Accordingly, a willingness to engage in cross-institutional and cross-disciplinary cooperation within campus focus areas and joint projects is expected.

We offer:

  • The opportunity to become part of a renowned and future-oriented university
  • Ticket for free use of public transport in the state Hesse, Germany
  • Extensive family support, including childcare during school holidays and dual career support
