The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, research group Artificial Intelligence – Multimodal Modelling and Machine Learning (M3L), Professor Ralph Ewerth, invites applications for the position as

Postdoctoral Researcher with a goal of becoming eligible for a professorship

The position is to be filled at the earliest possible date; it is a fixed-term post for four years, with the option of a two-year extension following a successful evaluation, provided that no prior periods of qualification are to be taken into account. It is a fulltime position with salary and benefits commensurate with a public service position in the state Hesse, Germany (TV-H E 13).

Tasks:

  • Scientific services in research and teaching
  • Research and development of new AI methods in the subject areas listed under ‘Profile’
  • Publication of research findings in high-impact international journals (A*/A/Q1)
  • Securing external funding for research and development projects (both as a collaborator and independently)
  • Co-supervision of PhD students
  • Optional: Establishment of an independent early-career research group

The position is limited to the period which is adequate to the duration of the qualification period. The qualification goal is a habilitation or an equivalent qualification required for a professorship. Within the scope of the assigned duties it will offer the possibility of independent scientific research for further qualification. The limitation complies to Section 2(1) of the German Academic Fixed-Term Contract Act (WissZeitVG).

Profile:

  • MSc-degree or equivalent in Computer Science or a related subject with a very good grade, and a very good PhD in Computer Science
  • Proven expertise in one or two of the following areas: computer vision, machine learning, deep learning, vision-language models, AutoML, human-centred AI
  • Proven expertise in one or two of the following AI application areas are an advantage: digital humanities, biodiversity, engineering/materials science, medicine
  • Publications in international interdisciplinary forums or international computer science forums in at least one of the above-mentioned areas
  • Very good programming skills in common programming languages (Python, Java, etc.), experience with software libraries for training machine learning algorithms
  • Extensive experience in teaching, supervising practical sessions, seminars, student theses, etc.

Disposition to own scientific qualification is expected.
