We are seeking to fill a

W2 TT W3-professorship for knowledge-based systems (w/m/d)

at the Institute for Information Systems (IFIS) at the University of Lübeck

The professorship is initially limited to 5 years at W2, with the possibility of extension and simultaneous promotion to W3 upon positive evaluation.

We are looking for a candidate who has demonstrated excellence in fundamental research in computer science in the field of the advertised professorship and who represents this excellence in research and teaching.

Ihr Aufgabengebiet:

The holder of the professorship should establish their own working group at the Institute for Information Systems ().

Furthermore, the future holder of the position should have outstanding scientific achievements, a successful track record in acquiring third-party funding (especially DFG), and interdisciplinary project experience. In addition, the successful candidate should be internationally recognized and have proven scientific experience in one or more of the following research areas:

• Modeling and representation of contextual knowledge

• Cognitively inspired information processing

• Data management

• Application of databases in the field of complex systems

• Ontologies (e.g., Semantic Web).

We are looking for a candidate who works at the interface between cognitively inspired knowledge approaches and practical computer science. Previous experience in the fields of human-centered AI, intelligent systems, and robotics is an advantage.

We expect a willingness to collaborate within IFIS and computer science and a possible connection to medical informatics and other institutes at the university, as well as collaboration with the university's Scientific Computing department. The range of tasks also includes the acquisition of third-party funding and the initiation and assumption of interdisciplinary project. Applicants are expected to participate scientifically in the institute's research priorities and the university's profile areas, in particular LEMMI (Lübeck Environments for Minds and Machines in Interaction, ) and “Human-AI Interaction.” In teaching, the successful candidate will be expected to take over the “Databases” lecture and participate in the “Computer Science” (Bachelor's and Master's, German-language) and “Artificial Intelligence” (Master's, part-time, English-language) degree programs, as well as other degree programs in the university's STEM sections.
