The University of Marburg, founded in 1527, offers a variety of excellent programs of study for around 22,000 students and confronts the important topics of our time through excellent research across a broad spectrum of sciences.

The Faculty of Medicine, Institute of Anatomy and Cell Biology invites applications for a

Professorship (W3) in Anatomy and Cell Biology

to be filled at the earliest possible date.

Professorships with a W2 or W3 salary at the University of Marburg are full professorships with their own staff and equipment.

The professorship represents the field of anatomy and cell biology in research and teaching including the management of the institute of Anatomy and Cell Biology. The institute has a new teaching building for anatomy, which is excellently equipped with a prosectorium, and state of the art research laboratories.

Tasks:

The teaching responsibilities of the professorship include a dedicated representation and coordination of the discipline across its entire spectrum. The candidate is expected to participate in curriculum development (including the continued implementation of the National Competency-Based Learning Objectives Catalog for Medicine, NKLM) and in interdisciplinary teaching projects.

In terms of research, the professorship is expected to contribute to the research focus inflammation/infection and / or cancer research, and to support significantly its further development, including the Faculty’s efforts to establish a research profile in the fields of epithelial inflammation. This requires close collaboration with existing research groups, institutes, and clinical departments—in particular TRR 425 “Desmosomal Dysfunction in Epithelial Barriers,” the German Center for Infection Research (DZIF), the German Center for Lung Research (DZL) and/ or the University Cancer Center Frankfurt-Marburg (UCT).

In addition, the candidate is expected to play a particularly active role in raising competitive external funds.

Profile:

We are looking for an excellent personality (m/f/d) with strong leadership skills, who promotes research and teaching in anatomy and cell biology at a high level. Applicants should have long-standing teaching experience in macroscopic and microscopic anatomy and cell biology.

The profile of the candidate should include outstanding publications and a successful track record in competitive external fund raising as well as a strong interest in collaboration and interdisciplinary cooperation.

The requirements of the position include a completed university degree, preferably in human medicine, dentistry or veterinary medicine, or in the field of biomedical sciences, teaching aptitude, a doctoral degree and, in addition, academic achievements demonstrated by a habilitation or equivalent qualifications, which may also have been achieved in the context of a junior professorship.

The universities of Giessen and Marburg, together with the Technical University of Central Hesse, have established the Central Hesse Research Campus. Within this framework, the two medical faculties practice a structured collaboration based on coordinated priorities. Accordingly, candidates are expected to be willing to cooperate across universities and departments in campus priorities and profile areas, as well as to participate in collaborative projects.

The employment requirements of Sections 67 and 68 of the Hessian Higher Education Act (HessHG) apply. The University of Marburg pays major attention to the intensive supervision of students and doctoral candidates and expects lecturers to show a strong presence at the university. Two years after taking up the position, knowledge of German at C1 level is required.
