Research Associate (Postdoc) at the Professorship in Economics, esp. Sustainability Economics for the Project “CLICCS” § 28 Subsection 2 + 3 HmbHG

Salary level: EGR. 13 TV-L

Start date: as soon as possible, September at the latest, fixed for a period of three years (This is a fixed-term contract in accordance with Section 2 of the academic fixed-term labor contract act [Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz, WissZeitVG]).The contract provides for a maximum extension of up to three years depending on the associate’s achievements during the first stage. Providing that a position is available and that requirements have been fulfilled, the associate may apply for temporary civil servant status in accordance with Section 28 subsection 2 HmbHG.

Your responsibilities

In the first 8 months duties include academic services in the project named above. Research associates may also pursue further academic qualifications outside of their work responsibilities.

For the remaining time duties include teaching and research in the respective department or institute. Research associates may also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications as well as acquire teaching experience. These duties are intended to promote academic achievement. Therefore, at least one-third of set working hours will be made available for the associate’s own academic work.

The postdoctoral researcher will contribute to the department's research and teaching mission through the following activities:

  • conduct independent and collaborative research with Prof. Dr. Anca Balietti in behavioral economics, with applications to environmental, development, political economy, and public economics topics
  • design and implement online, lab, and/or field experiments, and contribute to high-quality research output for publication
  • teach 5 hours in the Economics programs within the faculty (teaching will be starting in the second section of this position)
  • develop and write competitive research grant proposals, including collaborative funding applications

Your profile

A university degree in a relevant field, plus doctorate.

We are seeking candidates with strong research interests in behavioral and experimental economics, ideally with a focus on one or more of the following fields: political economy, public economics, environmental economics, and development economics.

Applicants should demonstrate the ability to publish research of the highest international standard and meet the following criteria:

  • PhD in Economics (completed by signing of the contract)
  • strong potential to produce and publish high-quality, peer-reviewed research
  • proven experience conducting online and/or field experiments
  • strong quantitative and coding skills in Stata, R, and/or another statistical software package
  • excellent command of English (written and spoken)
