Responsibilities

The Faculty of Education is seeking a professor (W2) of education with a focus on social science education.

The professorship is expected to cover teaching and research across the whole field of social science education. Duties include:

  • carrying out relevant research in social science education fields
  • teacher training in the context of social diversity; this includes, in particular, teacher training for secondary schools I and II, teacher training in special needs education, teaching subjects for teacher training in secondary schools, teacher training for vocational schools, and preparing and supervising teaching placements
  • participating in one or more core research areas or emerging fields (), particularly in faculty research center Literacy in Diversity Settings (LiDS) and emerging field Languages and Literacies and the faculty research area Uncertainty as a Dimension of Education () (In their application, applicants are expected to indicate to which of the University or faculty core research areas or emerging fields their research can best be assigned.)
  • participating in the faculty’s internationalization and knowledge exchange activities
  • exploring democracy education and political education in a professional context or within a polarized society as topics

Your profile

We expect:

  • performance and expertise in multiple areas of social sciences education research with recognizable links to teacher training for secondary schools in diverse contexts, including in at least one empirical research area, particularly through the successful acquisition of external funding
  • international academic experience

We also expect:

  • demonstrable teaching skills and university teaching experience
  • language skills sufficient for teaching in German (level C1). Language proficiency may be obtained within the first 2 years of employment. The University of Hamburg is happy to assist you.
