Responsibilities

The Faculty of Education is seeking a professor (W2) of education science with a focus on education, socialization, and participation in the context of disability and disadvantage.

In addition to research and teaching in the field, your duties include:

  • carrying out research relevant to participation, life circumstances, and coping strategies for those facing disability and disadvantage, with a focus sociological, international, and intersectional perspectives
  • cooperating with the Faculty of Education departments and participating in the Literacy in Diversity Settings (LiDS) research center ()
  • participating in the University’s core research areas or emerging fields ()
  • participating in teacher training and teaching in bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in teacher education in Hamburg, particularly in the special education teacher training program
  • participating in the faculty’s internationalization and knowledge exchange activities

Your profile

We are looking for a candidate with an outstanding academic track record and research experience in the professorship field.

We expect:

  • relevant theoretical contributions and empirical research as well as international scholarly experience in the field
  • empirical and theoretical insights into at least one of the following:
  • transformation of educational and participation institutions: cooperation, networking, and professionalism, particularly at the interfaces between systems and transitions related to stages of life
  • historical, ethical, and sociopolitical perspectives on participation, disability, and disadvantage
  • lifelong sociospatial and person-centered participation and planning in education for people with complex disadvantages

We also expect:

  • experience and success in acquiring and implementing externally funded projects
  • demonstrable teaching skills and university teaching experience
  • language skills sufficient for teaching in German (level C1). Language proficiency may be obtained within the first 2 years of employment. The University of Hamburg is happy to assist you.

Ideally, you will also have:

  • long-standing experience in managing staff and academic self-governance
  • an ability to work with digital and accessible media
