Clausthal University of Technology is a modern profile university focused on the Circular Economy. The guiding theme with its characteristics of resource-efficient circular economy, sustainable materials, renewable energies and digital control of the overall system is a recurrent theme throughout the university. At Clausthal University of Technology, we research, teach and work to build a sustainable society in the digital age. Founded in 1775, students in the Harz region have been successfully educated in the natural sciences, engineering and economics as well as computer science and mathematics for around 250 years. Approximately 80 professors, 3,000 students and 1,100 employees enjoy short distances, a personal atmosphere and the varied landscape in the middle of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We are known for our close contact with students. The research-intensive university, with its excellent national and international network, is the most important economic factor in the region.

The Faculty of Engineering and Economics of the Clausthal University of Technology is seeking to appoint the Position of

University Professor (Salary Scale W3 NBesO) "Technical Thermodynamics" (m/f/d)

at the Institute of Energy Process Engineering and Fuel Technology, starting as soon as possible.

You fit in with us if:

The individual to be appointed must be identified by outstanding research accomplishments in the thermodynamics of solid-fluid systems as a basis for the design of energy-related and energy-intensive processes and in at least one of the following areas of focus:

  • Kinetics and thermodynamics of solid-state and solid-fluid reactions
  • Molecular modeling and data-driven modeling approaches for describing thermophysical and thermochemical processes, e.g., for surface and interface processes
  • Sorption mechanisms, e.g., for gas storage and purification
  • Thermodynamics in material development, e.g., of adsorbents, catalysts, artificial minerals
  • Thermochemical conversion of solids, e.g., mineral conversion/roasting, fuel conversion, polymer processing, as a building block of the circular economy
  • Thermochemical heat storage, high-temperature heat storage with phase change, long-term heat storage

Interdisciplinary collaboration is expected with regard to the development of new products and processes, particularly in the fields of process engineering, metallurgy/non-metallic materials, and electrical energy systems engineering.

We are looking for a proven expert who competently represents the field of technical thermodynamics in research and teaching.

The requirements of the position are defined in Section 25 of the Niedersachsen Higher Education Act (Niedersächsisches Hochschulgesetz NHG).

In addition to a university degree in the fields of engineering and science, an excellent doctorate as well as a habilitation or comparable achievements, are required. Experience in the acquisition of third-party funded projects or corresponding industrial experience is expected. The willingness to hold courses in German and English is a prerequisite. Strong commitment to teaching is expected.

This is what you can look forward to at TU Clausthal:

  • The university stands for equal opportunities, diversity, internationality and family friendliness.
  • Among other things, we offer support services for balancing family and career.
  • On a campus surrounded by nature, researchers enjoy an atmosphere of open-mindedness, team spirit and active interdisciplinarity.
  • We support our welcoming culture with an onboarding program.
  • Continuing education and health promotion are also very important at Clausthal University of Technology.

Clausthal University of Technology strives to increase the proportion of female professors and therefore expressly encourages women to apply. At the same time, it values the diversity of skills of its employees in all areas of the university. We therefore welcome applications regardless of age, gender, nationality, origin and religion. Applications from severely disabled people are also expressly encouraged and will be given preference if equally qualified. A command of German for teaching and committee work is desirable.

Part-time employment can be made possible on request.

Applicants who have already reached the age of 50 at the time of the intended appointment and are not already employed as civil servants will generally be recruited as employees.

We look forward to receiving your application!
