at the Institute of Animal Genomics. Starting date: At the earliest possible date
The Institute of Animal Genomics is seeking a highly motivated scientist to join the newly established Research Integration Unit VETCODE: From Code to Clinic: Pattern Recognition Across Biological Scales in Skeletal Development and Disease. VETCODE aims to integrate genetic and epigenetic information with pathological, imaging-derived, and clinical phenotypes of skeletal disorders in veterinary medicine. Adopting a veterinary systems biology perspective, the project seeks to investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying skeletal dysplasia and developmental deformities across biological scales and to relate these mechanisms to tissue alterations, imaging findings, and clinical manifestations. The position combines scientific coordination with independent research at the interface of genomics, pathology, imaging, and computational data analysis. The successful candidate will play a central role in fostering collaboration between participating research groups and in developing innovative approaches for multiscale data integration and pattern recognition. The position offers opportunities to develop and pursue independent research projects within the scope of VETCODE and supports further academic qualification and career development.
Areas of Responsibility and Key Focus Areas:
· Scientific coordination of activities within the Research Integration Unit VETCODE
· Support in the planning and implementation of pilot projects on skeletal dysplasia and developmental deformities
· Contribution to the development and implementation of integrative analytical approaches for multi-omics, imaging, histological, and clinical data
· Support in the analysis of sequencing datasets (e.g., RNA-seq, epigenomic datasets, and single-cell data)
· Contribution to the development of AI-assisted approaches for multiscale pattern recognition and data integration
· Support in the preparation of scientific publications and grant applications (particularly proposals to the German Research Foundation, DFG)
· Organization of scientific exchange activities, workshops, and project meetings
· A completed PhD (or equivalent doctoral degree) in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Systems Biology, Genomics, Molecular Biology, Biology, Veterinary Medicine, or a related discipline
· Excellent written and spoken English language skills
· Basic knowledge in the analysis of high-dimensional biological datasets, particularly sequencing, multi-omics, epigenomic, or single-cell data
· Experience with, or strong interest in, bioinformatic, statistical, and data-analytical methods
· Familiarity with R and/or Python
· Knowledge of systems biology, gene regulation, epigenomics, machine learning, or multiscale data integration is advantageous
· Ability to communicate complex scientific concepts across disciplinary boundaries
· Good written and spoken German language skills
· Independent, structured, and solution-oriented working style
· Excellent organizational, communication, and teamwork skills
· Willingness to contribute to scientific coordination, develop independent research questions, and participate in the preparation of publications and grant applications
· Strong analytical and conceptual thinking skills combined with the ability to develop innovative solutions
· Flexibility and willingness to rapidly familiarize oneself with new technologies and research are
