In order to fill a fixed-term position in full-time (39.83 hours/week = 100%) at the earliest possible date, we are looking for a

Three-year Postdoc (m/f/d) in X-ray photoemission spectroscopy of lithium batteries (TV-L 13 100%)

The chair of "Atomic-scale Characterisation" is studying materials at the atomic level.

The chair of Atomic-scale Characterisation (Ruhr-Universität Bochum Atomic-Scale Characterisation (ruhr-uni-bochum.de) is looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher in chemistry/materials science with a strong background in X-ray-based spectroscopy studies of battery interphases or electrocatalyst materials.

Duration: fixed-term, 3 years

Your tasks:

  • Performing and analyzing X-ray photoemission spectroscopy meausurement on battery and/or electrocatalst materials
  • Carrying out and analyzing synchrotron-based X-ray absorption near edge structure spectroscopy on electrodes
  • Performing hard X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy measurements on battery materials and analyzing data
  • Writing short proposals to apply for beam time
  • Assembling lithium or sodium metal battery assembly and fabricating electrode or coin cells
  • Performing electrochemical measurements of battery cells
  • Writing papers and managing scientific projects
  • Contributing to teaching activites in the chair.

Your profile:

  • a PhD degree in materials science, organic or inorganic chemistry or electrochemistry
  • solid knowledge of electrochemistry
  • extensive experience with electrochemical battery cycling tests (cycling, voltammetry, and EIS)
  • extensive experience in X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray absorption near edge structure spectroscopy and extended X-ray absorption fine structure analysis
  • experience in managing scientific projects
  • can work in a multicultural environment
  • ideally also experience in in situ or operando X-ray based spectroscopy

The position is salaried and based on the collective agreement of the Länder (TV-L). If the personal and collective agreement requirements are met, the employee will receive pay grade TV-L 13 TV-L.

The place of work is Ruhr University Bochum.

The load of teaching will be calculated according to § 3 of Lehrverpflichtungsverordnung (state of North Rhine-Westphalia).
