Research associate (f/m/x) for the development of rejuvenation heat treatments of Ni-Base alloys

The Chair of Materials Engineering (Prof. Dr.-Ing. S. Weber) is part of the Institute of Materials within the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at RUB. We are engaged in the production, characterisation and optimisation of metallic materials that have been processed using conventional, powder metallurgical or additive manufacturing methods. Our focus is on the influence of different manufacturing processes on the microstructure and the resulting properties. A wide range of state-of-the-art testing methods and analytical techniques is available for investigating these properties. In addition to research and teaching, the Chair also engages in knowledge transfer to industry. In this way, the Chair acts as a bridge towards solving both relevant scientific and industrial technological problems.

We are seeking a motivated researcher with a strong interest in Ni-base alloys, materials testing and materials science. A completed university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in engineering, natural sciences, or materials science is required. As a research assistant (m/f/x), you will independently and reliably plan the work packages for the project and carry out experiments, analyse the results and present them at conferences and publish them in journals.

Duration: fixed-term, 36 months

Your tasks:

  • Planning and carrying out heat treatments under variable pressure, temüprature and duration
  • Metallografic sample preparation and microscopic microstructural analyses
  • Various materials testing methods for materials characterisation
  • Writing publications

Your profile:

  • Are you interested in carrying out research into nickel-based alloys and do you already have some experience in this field?
  • You hold a Master’s degree from a university in materials science or a comparable qualification
  • Ability to work independently and in a team, with a structured and proactive mindset
  • Excellent written and spoken English skills (German is a plus)

  • We offer the opportunity to work in a young, interdisciplinary research group at the interface of materials science, mechanics and simulation. Our aim is to develop innovative manufacturing, treatment and analysis methods for modern metallic complex materials with enhanced properties for industrial practice .

Further information:

The position is salaried and based on the collective agreement of the Länder (TV-L). If the personal and collective agreement requirements are met, the employee will receive pay grade E13 TV-L.

The place of work is Ruhr University Bochum.

If the position is funded by third-party funds the employee has no teaching obligation.
At the applicant’s request, the position may also be filled on a part-time basis. This job vacancy is subject to final project approval.
