The Faculty of Computer Science at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum invites applications for the position of a Junior Professor W1 with Tenure-Track W2 (m/f/d) for****Developer-Centered Security to start on at the earliest possible date.
The holder of the position will represent the subject of
Developer-Centered Security
in research and teaching.
Successful applicants should demonstrate a strong track record on human-centered security research, with experience in empirical research with real-world S&P stakeholders. Example topics include:
- Field studies with stakeholders designing and implementing S&P mechanisms (using qualitative and/or quantitative methods)
- Identifying knowledge and skills gaps in the S&P developer ecosystem (empirical studies with decision makers, developers, CISOs, etc.)
- Design and evaluation of interventions to address knowledge and skills gaps in the S&P developer ecosystem
- Harnessing intelligent and emerging technologies to develop human-centered S&P
- Supporting “S&P by design” in the development process, in particular for intelligent systems and/or emerging technologies
- Development of secure code, in-depth knowledge of technical S&P standards and their implementation.
We are looking for a scientist with an internationally visible research profile who is willing to play an active role in current and future projects, especially at the Cluster of Excellence "CASA: Securing the Digital Society" and the Horst Görtz Institute for IT Security. CASA, together with the Max Planck Institute for Security and Privacy, offers unique opportunities to work in an interdisciplinary fashion with colleagues from all areas of modern cybersecurity, including cryptography, software and hardware security as well as AI and societal aspects. The vibrant Bochum digital ecosystem forms one of the leading research locations for cybersecurity in Europe. There is also ample opportunity to interact with the well-developed start-up community in the area of security and computer science.

Requirements
The position will be filled with a tenure track for the professorship to W2. If the evaluation is positive, the professorship will be in an appropriately simplified procedure without a new announcement. The specific criteria for the evaluation of the professorship can be accessed at .
An excellent scientific qualification is required, usually proven by a PhD of outstanding quality. Evidence of special suitability for academic teaching is just as much required as the willingness to participate in the self-governing bodies of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum and to generally get involved in university processes according to Ruhr-Universität Bochum’s mission statement. The candidate has to meet the appointment requirements according to section 36 ff. Hochschulgesetz NW.
We expect furthermore:
- strong commitment in teaching;
- readiness to participate in interdisciplinary research;
- willingness and ability to attract third-party funded research projects;
- willingness to participate and strengthen existing research collaborations.
