Chair of Applied Microbiology Technical plasmas
In order to fill a fixed-term position in part-time (26,5533 hours/week) at the earliest possible date, we are looking for a
PhD researcher (m/f/x) at the Chair of Applied Microbiology in the field of technical plasmas
At the Chair of Applied Microbiology, we are investigating the use of non-thermal atmospheric pressure plasmas for the production of chemical species that can be used to drive enzymes in biocatalytic reactions. The Chair of Applied Microbiology has a vacancy for a position on the topic of “Plasma-driven biocatalysis” to be filled at the earliest possible date.
The goal of the doctoral research project will be the optimization of the process of plasma-driven biocatalysis as part of the DFG Collaborative Research Center 1316 “Transient Atmospheric Pressure Plasmas - From Plasma to Liquids to Solids” https://sfb1316.rub.de/index.php/de/

Your tasks:
- Establish and optimize the process of plasma-driven biocatalysis by designing, constructing, and operating a biocatalytic flow system with immobilized unspecific peroxygenases
- Implementation of biochemical and analytical assays for characterizing the biocatalytic reactions (GC-FID, HPLC) and FPLC-based protein purifications
- The candidate (m/f/d) will present her/his research results at national and international scientific meetings and contribute to their publication in international peer-reviewed journals
Your profile:
- The successful candidate (m/f/x) will have earned a Master’s degree in Microbiology / Biology / Biochemistry / Biotechnology or related subject area
- The candidate (m/f/x) will have in-depth knowledge of biotechnology, biochemistry, and microbiology and hands-on experience in at least one of these areas. Experience in molecular biology, GC-FID, HPLC, and protein purification will be of benefit
- Excellent computer skills, excellent English language skills, excellent teamwork, and communication skills are expected

The position is salaried and based on the collective agreement of the Länder (TV-L). If the personal and collective agreement requirements are met, the employee will receive pay grade E13 TV-L.

The place of work is Ruhr University Bochum.
If the position is funded by third-party funds the employee has no teaching obligation.
