Your tasks
The Tipping Points Modelling Intercomparison Project (TIPMIP) is an international initiative that aims to deepen our understanding of tipping dynamics in the Earth system. As a model intercomparison project, TIPMIP brings together international modeling groups to jointly develop and run computer simulations. In this way, TIPMIP creates a unique data basis for investigating and quantifying tipping points risks. International and interdisciplinary collaboration, modeling, and research on the Earth system are thus at the center of the project. TIPMIP is coordinated by a cross-institutional team at the MPI-GEA, the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), and the Earth Commission, led by Ricarda Winkelmann.

full-time or part-time with at least 32 hours per week. The position includes scientific research as well as project coordination.
Your tasks
The scientific activities relate to the study and analysis of the risks of tipping points within the framework of TIPMIP:
- Evaluation of data on the dynamics of tipping elements, their interactions, their effects on the Earth system and human societies, and systematic assessment of relevant uncertainties
- Analysis of the probability of tipping under different scenarios related to greenhouse gas emissions, land use change, and exceeding other planetary boundaries
- Risk analysis, including quantification of tipping probabilities as well as socio-economic impacts and damages
- Integration of data and results from TIPMIP into future reports and communication projects
Project coordination involves the implementation of the project's content and structure in close consultation with the existing TIPMIP Project Office and the scientific management:
- Implementation of a strategy for the long-term financing of the project
- Stakeholder management
- Coordination with related projects (in particular partnerships with existing EU Horizon projects) and projects currently under development
- Drafting of reports
- Design, coordination, and implementation of project-related workshops and conferences
- Maintenance of the project website and communication, including management of inbox
- Organization, preparation, follow-up, and management of internal project meetings
- Further development and maintenance of internal project digital infrastructure, e.g., calendars, project management tools, data
Your profile
- Completed university degree (diploma/master) in physics, earth system or climate sciences, ecology, or a comparable background in natural sciences
- Doctorate degree advantageous
- Strong interdisciplinary interest and experience in scientific work and networking
- Knowledge of Earth system modeling, climate sciences, physics, or comparable fields is desirable
- Willingness to participate in international conferences and associated travel
- Experience in coordinating scientific projects
- High level of competence in oral and written German and English
- Analytical thinking, high sense of responsibility, strong communication skills, proactive approach to work
Our offer
This fulltime (39 hours/week) or part-time (at least 32 hours/week) position will start as soon as possible. Renumeration will follow the public service pay scale (TVöD) up to paygroup 13, according to the candidate’s qualifications and experience. You are entitled to an annual bonus, 30 days' holiday, and time off on 24th and 31st December. We also offer attractive and family-friendly flexitime and arrangements for remote working.
