The Faculty of Medicine invites applications for a

Professorship (W2) (6 years/tenure track)

of Musculoskeletal Spine Surgery

commencing as soon as possible.

The professorship will be located at the Department of Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery, University Hospital of LMU Munich.

The responsibilities and duties of the professorship encompass representing and managing the focus field of spine surgery in teaching, research and patient care. We are seeking qualified candidates who can comprehensively cover the field of spinal surgery within Orthopedics & Trauma Surgery. Exceptional academic achievements of national and international visibility are expected, substantiated by relevant publications and successful acquisition of third-party funding. Equally important is the ability to integrate into cooperative and collaborative projects while aligning one’s research interests with the core competence of the Musculoskeletal University Center Munich (MUM). This applies similarly to substantial teaching experience.

The position holder will assume the role of Head of Spinal Surgery within the Musculoskeletal University Center Munich (MUM). Thus, recognition as a specialist in Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery, along with substantial clinical competencies demonstrating profound expertise in both conservative and surgical practices of Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery – specifically in the field of Spine Surgery – are required. Actively participating in the establishment of an interdisciplinary Spine Center in collaboration with the Department of Neurosurgery is expressly desired.

The initial appointment will be for six years. After a minimum of three years, it can be converted into a permanent position pending a positive evaluation of the candidate’s performance in research and teaching as well as his or her personal aptitude and if all legal conditions are met.
