The mission of the Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) as a nationally and internationally active research institute is to deliver solutions for an ecologically, economically and socially sustainable agriculture – together with society. ZALF is a member of the Leibniz Association and is located in Müncheberg (approx. 35 minutes by regional train from Berlin-Lichtenberg). The institute maintains further locations in Brandenburg (Dedelow, Paulinenaue) as well as in Hesse (Giessen, Witzenhausen, and Geisenheim).

The ExpAKlim project (experimental basis for new agricultural crops to adapt plant production to the effects of climate change), coordinated by the Landscape Modelling group of PB4, focuses on the cultivation of the novel crop species buckwheat, sorghum, chickpeas, and lentils under different irrigation and drought conditions.

We are offering a position for 3 months for 20 hours/month from October until December 2026 to support field experimental work at our location in Müncheberg as a

Student assistant (f/m/d) 40-2026

Your tasks:

  • Support constructing and maintaining experimental infrastructure (rainout shelters and irrigation system) in the field and indoor
  • Support biomass sampling in the field
  • Support biomass sample processing in the dirt laboratory
  • Support agricultural management of the field experiment

Your qualifications:

  • Enrolled student in a Bachelor's degree program, currently attending a German university, preferably in the field of life sciences
  • Ability to conduct physically demanding labor in an open field experiment including stooped postures and heavy carrying, also under hot/cold/wet weather conditions
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Structured way of working and strong organizational skills
  • Experience with agricultural field work is desirable
  • German language skills are desirable
  • Driving license (class B) is desirable
