An der Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst / Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig ist zum 1.10.2027 die

W3-Professur (m/w/d) für Kunstgeschichte der Moderne und Gegenwart mit den Schwerpunkten Geschichte und Theorie künstlerischer Praxis im erweiterten Kunstfeld sowie Bildgeschichte und -forschung (Kennzahl T/68/27)

unbefristet in Vollzeit zu besetzen. Erstmals Berufene können gemäß § 71 Abs. 2 Sächsisches Hochschulgesetz (SächsHSG) für bis zu zwei Jahre auf Probe eingestellt werden.

Die Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst Leipzig mit etwa 550 Studierenden in vier Diplom-, einem Masterstudiengang sowie einem Studienprogramm für Geflüchtete und insgesamt etwa 100 hauptamtlichen Mitarbeiter*innen gehört zu den ältesten Kunsthochschulen in Deutschland.

Gesucht wird eine herausragende, international vernetzte Persönlichkeit mit ausgewiesener Forschung im Bereich der Kunstgeschichte der Moderne und Gegenwart, die das Fach in großer inhaltlicher Breite in Forschung und Lehre an der Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst vertritt: Im Mittelpunkt steht einerseits die kritische Theoretisierung und Vermittlung von Methodologien und Epistemologien, die sich – über künstlerische, gestalterische Praxis hinaus – in einem hybridisierten Kunstfeld finden, zu dem auch weitere Formen kultureller Produktion und Ausstellungsgeschichte gehören. Andererseits liegt ein Schwerpunkt auf Bildgeschichte und -forschung – also auf der kritischen Theoretisierung und historisch differenzierten Auslegung tradierter visueller Erscheinungsformen – etwa Malerei. Erwartet wird zudem die Fähigkeit – ausgehend von kunsthistorischer Fundierung – auf Fragestellungen des sich dynamisch entwickelnden Kunstfeldes mit theoretischen Reflexionen der oben genannten Wissensgebiete und Diskurse zu antworten. Vorausgesetzt wird, dass derdie Stelleninhaberin die Breite der ästhetischen Phänomene in ihren kunstgeschichtlichen, politisch-gesellschaftlichen, ökonomischen und kulturellen Zusammenhängen vermitteln sowie Produktions- und Forschungsprozesse in Kunst und Gestaltung reflektieren und anstoßen kann.

Neben national und international sichtbaren Forschungsleistungen wird ein besonderes Engagement in der Lehre und eine hohe Bereitschaft zur Präsenz vor Ort erwartet. Die von der Professur zu verantwortende Lehre findet am interdisziplinär ausgerichteten Institut für Theorie im Rahmen der Diplomstudiengänge der HGB statt (Malerei/Grafik, Medienkunst, Buchkunst/Grafik-Design, Fotografie). Vorausgesetzt wird ein Lehrangebot, das unter anderem den Anforderungen im Grundstudium mit einem fachspezifischen Vorlesungskonzept begegnet. Erwartet werden zudem Lehrangebote, die sich an Studierende eines neuen, interdisziplinär ausgerichteten Masterstudiengangs richten, der mit dem Profil der ausgeschriebenen Professur korrespondieren und Studierende aus Bereichen wie künstlerischer Forschung, kritischer Historiographie und Ästhetik sowie kuratorischer Studien gleichermaßen ansprechen soll.

Die Bewerber*innen müssen die Berufungsvoraussetzungen gemäß § 59 SächsHSG erfüllen. Die Professur setzt ein abgeschlossenes wissenschaftliches Studium im Fach Kunstgeschichte und eine besondere Befähigung zur wissenschaftlichen Arbeit voraus. Diese wird durch eine überdurchschnittliche Promotion im Fachgebiet der Kunstgeschichte nachgewiesen. Darüber hinaus sind pädagogische Eignung, Lehrerfahrung an einer Hochschule und hochschuldidaktische Kenntnisse Voraussetzung. Erwartet werden zudem herausragende Forschungstätigkeiten im Berufungsgebiet, belegt durch eine Habilitation oder habilitationsäquivalente Leistungen, die sich auf die Kunst der Moderne und Gegenwart sowie auf Theoretisierungen des hybriden Feldes aktueller künstlerischer Praxis vor dem Hintergrund ihrer historischen Dispositive konzentrieren.

Da die HGB Leipzig über das Promotionsrecht verfügt, wird von derdem künftigen Stelleninhaberin die Bereitschaft zur Vertiefung eigener Forschungsschwerpunkte, zur Betreuung von Promotionsvorhaben und den theoretischen Arbeiten künstlerischer Diplome erwartet. Ferner gehen wir davon aus, dass sich die*der zu Berufende durch ausgeprägte Sozialkompetenzen und Kenntnisse intersektionaler Diskriminierungsphänomene auszeichnet, an der Weiterentwicklung unserer Studiengänge mitwirkt und sich in kooperativen Forschungsvorhaben, der Einwerbung von Drittmitteln und im Rahmen von interdisziplinären und diskriminierungskritischen Lehrformaten engagiert. Zu den Aufgaben gehören zudem die exponierte, verantwortliche Mitarbeit in der Selbstverwaltung der Hochschule, die Mitwirkung bei der Abnahme von Prüfungen und in Stellenbesetzungs- und Berufungsverfahren sowie die Übernahme von Ämtern in den Gremien, die Förderung der Studierenden und des künstlerischen Nachwuchses, die Mitwirkung bei den Verfahren der Qualitätssicherung sowie die Teilnahme an Lehrveranstaltungen in der Weiterbildung.

Die Lehrverpflichtung bestimmt sich nach der Sächsischen Dienst-aufgabenverordnung an Hochschulen (HSDAVO) in ihrer jeweils geltenden Fassung und beträgt aktuell 8 Lehrveranstaltungsstunden á 45 Minuten pro Woche der Vorlesungszeit. Erwartet werden sehr gute Kommunikationsfähigkeiten in deutscher und englischer Sprache in Wort und Schrift. Derdie Stelleninhaberin muss in der Lage sein, Lehrveranstaltungen auch in englischer Sprache durchzuführen, um die Internationalisierung der Hochschule zu unterstützen. Die Lehr- und Amtssprache ist deutsch.

Permanent, full-time W3 Professorship (m/f/d) in the History of Modern and Contemporary Art with a focus on the history and theory of artistic practice in the expanded art field as well as visual studies

The Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig (HGB), with approximately 550 students in four diploma programs, one master's program, and a study program for refugees, as well as around 100 staff members, is one of the oldest art academies in Germany.

We are looking for an outstanding, internationally networked individual with proven research expertise in the history of modern and contemporary art who can represent the discipline in its full breadth in both research and teaching at the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig: On the one hand, the focus is on the critical theorization and teaching of methodologies and epistemologies within a hybridized field of art that includes, alongside artistic and design practice, other forms of cultural production and exhibition history. On the other hand, the focus is on visual studies and the history of image-making, understood as the critical theorization and historically differentiated interpretation of traditional visual forms of expression such as painting. Additionally, the ability to respond, on the basis of a solid grounding in art history, to questions arising from the dynamically evolving art field through theoretical reflections on the aforementioned areas of knowledge and discourses is expected. It is assumed that the position holder can convey the breadth of aesthetic phenomena within their art-historical, political-social, economic, and cultural contexts and can reflect upon and initiate production and research processes in art and design.

In addition to nationally and internationally visible research achievements, a particular commitment to teaching and a high willingness to be present on-site are expected. The teaching responsibilities of the professorship are based at the interdisciplinary Institute for Theory and span the diploma programs of the HGB (Painting/Graphic Arts, Media Art, Book Art/Graphic Design, Photography). Applicants are expected to submit a teaching portfolio that addresses, among other aspects, the requirements of the foundation curriculum and includes a concept for a lecture course in the field of the professorship. Furthermore, teaching offerings are expected that are directed at students of a new, interdisciplinary master's program that corresponds to the profile of the advertised professorship and is intended to appeal equally to students from the areas of artistic research, critical art history and aesthetics, as well as curatorial studies.

Applicants must meet the appointment requirements according to §59 SächsHSG. The professorship requires a completed academic degree in art history and a special aptitude for scholarly work. This is demonstrated by an above-average doctoral degree in the field of art history. In addition, pedagogical aptitude, teaching experience at a higher education institution, and knowledge of higher education didactics are prerequisites. Furthermore, outstanding research activities in the field of appointment are expected, evidenced by a habilitation or equivalent achievements that focus on modern and contemporary art as well as theorizations of the hybrid field of current artistic practice against the background of its historical dispositifs, and demonstrated by at least one additional scholarly monograph.

Since the HGB Leipzig holds the right to award doctoral degrees, the future position holder is expected to be willing to deepen their own research focuses, to supervise doctoral projects, and to advise on theoretical work for artistic diplomas. Furthermore, we expect the appointee to demonstrate strong social competencies and knowledge of intersectional phenomena of discrimination, to contribute to the further development of our study programs, and to engage in cooperative research projects, the acquisition of third-party funding, and interdisciplinary and discrimination-critical teaching formats. Duties also include active and responsible participation in the self-administration of the academy, involvement in examinations and in hiring and appointment procedures, as well as the assumption of offices in committees, the support of students and emerging artists, participation in quality assurance procedures, and involvement in continuing education courses.

The teaching obligation is determined by the Saxon Regulation on Duties at Higher Education Institutions (HSDAVO) in its currently valid version and currently amounts to 8 teaching hours of 45 minutes each per week during the lecture period. Excellent communication skills in German and English, both spoken and written, are expected. The position holder must be able to conduct courses in English to support the internationalization of the academy. The regular language of instruction and official language is German.
