The explores the immunological mechanisms underlying chronic lung diseases such as COPD, lung fibrosis, asthma, and lung cancer. We want to translate our findings into preventative and therapeutic approaches for patients. The Aerosol Toxicology team at LHI investigates the human health effects of ambient aerosols. The well-equipped laboratories are located on the north campus of Helmholtz Munich in Neuherberg.

We are looking for a master student (f/m/x) to test and validate a novel long-term aerosol exposure module for air-liquid interface cell exposure to ambient air pollution.

Your tasks

• You will perform technical characterization of the newly developed exposure module in comparison to the standard module
• You will set up, conduct, and evaluate in vitro cell exposures at the air-liquid interface
• You will generate and evaluate cellular and molecular toxicological data
• You will collaborate closely with our industry partner, Vitrocell Systems GmbH, on technical evaluation and optimization

Your profile

• Master student in Biology, Biomedical Science or similar
• Basic knowledge and experience with cell culture and biological assays are required
• Interest in learning cellular and molecular toxicological methods
• Structured and independent working style and ability to work in a team
• Excellent spoken and written English

Desirable qualifications

• Practical experience in mammalian cell culture practices
• Basic experience/knowledge in (nano)particle / aerosol toxicology issues
• Interest in aerosol science and exposure system engineering
• Interest in multidisciplinary experimental research

This position has a fixed term, depending on the requirements of your study program.
