The Faculty of Human Sciences invites applications for the following position at the earliest possible date:

PROFESSORSHIP (W2) Art Education and Didactics of Art Teaching in Primary School

The professorship is part of the new primary school teacher education programme at BTU. Close collaboration among the ten professorships at the newly established Institute of Educational Science is expected, as well as a willingness to engage in further interdisciplinary cooperation.

The professorship aims to qualify future teachers to independently teach art in primary schools in an age-appropriate and supportive manner. This includes integrating pupils’ aesthetic practices, encouraging experimentation, and fostering communication about and through art. The position involves conveying artistic-practical, art-educational-didactic, and art-related scholarly knowledge and enabling students to acquire competencies in these areas. Supervision of subject-specific teaching internships is also part of the role.

We seek a candidate with teaching experience in art education and art didactics and with expertise in designing courses that integrate current research findings.

The successful candidate will actively contribute to the development of a research cluster within the Institute of Educational Science. Through interdisciplinary collaboration, this cluster is expected to make a visible and sustainable contribution to the research and development of innovative and contemporary primary school education.

The professorship represents the above-mentioned areas in research and teaching within the primary school teacher education programme and in other degree programmes at BTU. Teaching responsibilities include bachelor’s and master’s programmes in German and English. If sufficient German language skills are not yet available, the successful candidate is expected to acquire German promptly in order to contribute to the academic self-governance and administrative responsibilities of the Institute and the Faculty, to serve on university and non-university committees, and to teach bachelor-level courses in German.
