the following position is to be filled:
Academic Staff Member (m/f/d) in World Heritage Studies (Postdoctoral Researcher)
Your area of responsibility includes in particular:
Teaching
- Contributing to the teaching activities of the Chair of Cultural Management in accordance with its thematic and methodological profile. Teaching is currently provided within the English-taught Master’s programmes World Heritage Studies and Heritage Conservation and Site Management and focuses on developing students’ subject-specific knowledge, practical skills and ability to apply academic research methods.
- Contributing to the preparation of lectures and seminars, as well as to related administrative tasks.
- Preparing, conducting and assessing oral and written examinations.
- Contributing to the supervision of student projects and final theses, including Master’s theses.
Research
- Conducting academic research within the Chair’s research areas.
- Contributing to the development and submission of research proposals and to the implementation of externally funded research projects at national and European level.
- Presenting and publishing research findings and preparing contributions to reports and presentations.
- Pursuing independent advanced research with the aim of completing a Habilitation or obtaining equivalent additional academic qualifications. At least one third of the working time associated with the position will be available for this purpose.
- Contributing to administrative tasks related to the Chair’s research activities.
Your requirements profile:
- a completed university degree at Master’s level, Diplom or equivalent in a field relevant to the position, such as Cultural and Social Anthropology, (World) Heritage Studies, Social Sciences, Economics, Cultural Management or a comparable discipline;
- a relevant doctoral degree
You should have:
- a very good command of English, including experience of teaching in English;
- a good command of German or a willingness to acquire German language skills;
- experience in securing external funding for research projects;
- experience in conducting empirical research projects;
- sound knowledge of international frameworks and of governance, negotiation and decision-making processes in the field of UNESCO World Heritage and/or cultural and natural heritage, for example from perspectives informed by governmentality studies, political economy, or other critical approaches in the social and cultural sciences.
Desirable knowledge and experience:
- knowledge of and experience with research designs combining qualitative and quantitative methods

- the ability to conduct academic research to a high standard and work independently;
- flexibility;
- strong teamwork and communication skills.
