We are a young and dynamic technical university in the heart of Lusatia, developing practical, science-based solutions to address major future challenges and global transformation processes.

The Department of investigates the dynamic interaction between soil, organisms and plants as well as the interaction with nutrient availability, soil properties and climate. In ecosystems that are particularly vulnerable to climate change, our goal is to deepen the understanding of the dynamics of carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus.

The is a scientific institution of the BTU Cottbus - Senftenberg. In addition, it provides services for the research projects of the faculty as well as for external clients.

With the help of modern analytical methods, samples of the environmental media water, soil and air, waste and building material samples as well as samples from technological processes are examined for their structure and contents.

In the Faculty of Environment and Natural Sciences, the following position is availableat the Chair of soil plant systems and in the central analytical laboratory (ZAL):

Academic Staff Member (m/f/d)

Your area of responsibility includes in particular:

Research work:

  • Scientific work within the framework of the research priorities of the department or faculty
  • scientific and administrative supervision of laboratories according to detailed instructions, currently in particular the laboratory unit 'IRMS' (isotope ratio mass spectrometer) as well as the laboratory unit 'GCMS' (Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry) scientific advice and technical guidance for users (students, doctoral candidates, and researchers)
  • Collaboration in the conception, acquisition and implementation of third-party funded projects (e.g. DFG, BMFTR, Industrial Projects) for research and investment projects
  • Further Development of innovative scientific measurement and evaluation methods
  • Preparation of contributions to reports and presentations for the publication of the research results and presentation at national and international conferences as well as for various BTU event formats, participation in knowledge and technology transfer
  • as well as other research-related administrative tasks

Participation in teaching, including:

  • Participation in the fulfilment of the teaching tasks of thechair according to content and methodological specifications, currently for the courses of study Environmental and Resource Management, Environmental Sciences and Environmental Engineering, in order to to impart specialist knowledge, practical skills and instruction in the application of scientific methods
  • Preparation, implementation and follow-up/evaluation of exercises and internships,
  • Collaboration in the preparation of lectures and seminars as well as other administrative tasks related to teaching
  • Development/updating of teaching materials, aids and collections of tasks
  • Preparation, implementation and evaluation of oral and written examinations
  • Participation in the supervision of student theses and theses

Your requirements profile:

  • Completed scientific university degree (master's degree/university diploma / equivalent) in a field relevant to the activity (agricultural sciences, geosciences, chemistry, environmental sciences, biology or comparable)

The following knowledge and or experience are required:

  • Comprehensive expertise in mass spectrometry and the coupling of peripheral devices (GC, LC)
  • Experience in the application of stable isotopes
  • Experience in the acquisition of third-party funding
  • Experience in academic teaching as well as in the supervision of bachelor's/master's theses, experience in the guidance of scientific and technical staff
  • Publication Experience
  • Good knowledge of the German and/or English language, both written and spoken.
  • The willingness to acquire language skills that may not be available or not sufficiently available in a timely manner is required.

The following knowledge and/or experience is desired:

  • Completed doctorate
  • Knowledge of the research topic "Stable Isotope Mass Spectrometry – Nitrogen and Carbon Stable Isotopes"

  • Independent way of working, ability to solve problems with complex analytical problems, strong analytical skills, strong communication skills in an interdisciplinary environment
