Duties consist solely of independent or supervised teaching. Teaching obligations are determined in accordance with current state regulations (Lehrverpflichtungsverordnung, LVVO). The LVVO permits the Office of the Dean to redefine the teaching obligation. Teaching duties currently comprise 12 teaching hours per semester.
We are seeking a candidate who is qualified to teach Swahili courses at all levels. The prospective lecturer is expected to participate in a full range of Swahili language programme activities such as the development and implementation of Swahili courses and digital course materials within the framework of the B.A. and M.A. curricula. The teaching load will be 12 academic hours per week during the semester. Apart from this, the successful candidate will also be expected to participate actively in the academic and administrative work-flow at the department and the institute levels.
A university degree in a relevant field.
The successful candidate should have a university degree in Swahili language or linguistics and a record of at least three years of teaching Swahili as a foreign language. Native or near-native command of Swahili is required. Experience with the development of Swahili language teaching materials is preferred. The successful candidate will also be willing to regularly update her/his didactic training, develop digital teaching materials and implement generic digital language teaching formats. While high proficiency in both Swahili and English is a prerequisite, a working knowledge of German is expected to be acquired in no more than two years’ time.
